The Toshiba Copy Machine

Printing to the Toshiba Copy Machine in the work room from your computer

Can we do that?! And why?!?

Printing to the Toshiba copy machine will save your quarterly copy machine allotment!

Also, printing to the Toshiba should be convenient for you. You don't have to worry about delivery like you do with WebCRD.

How to print to the Toshiba Copy Machine

How to do it; Part 1- Printing
Use your new eMac, marked "2006"
Have your document that you want to print open.
Use the print command.
Change your printer, in the print dialog box, from the one that is selected to the one called Toshiba Copy Machine.
Tell it how many copies you want.
Press the print button.

How to do it; Part 2- Picking up your prints
Go to the work room copier.
The directions on the machine show you what button to press to get your print job. The directions are also below, though they make more sense when you can see the buttons and screen on the machine itself.

How to do it; Optional- Monitoring printing
In your Dock at the bottom of your computer screen, click the Printer Setup Utility
In the Printer Utility, double click on Toshiba Copy Machine
In the resulting window, you can see when the job is done, or if there is a problem. Click on the Completed tab to check the list of completed jobs. If your job printed, it will be last in the list, and it will have the name you gave it. Your list should have names more intelligible than those in this example screen shot!

Note that you can use this great little utility for any print job, and it even gives you control over your jobs. Check out those icons at the top of the window.

What is "Printing" to the Toshiba copier?

You are probably new to this idea, so let me explain that the Toshiba copier will act just like the printer you usually print to now, the one in your room, or the one somewhere on your hall where you print.

You can print multiple pages of a document, like 20 copies of a one page handout, just as we have always used copy machines. Or you can print a document with multiple pages, like a student's eight page report, just the way we have always used printers. You can also print one page jobs to the copier, but this would probably be more trouble than it is worth.

Why bother printing to the Toshiba copier?

Printing to the Toshiba copier gives you free copies. Prints you make there do not come off of your quarterly copy machine allotment.

The idea of using the copier is that it is much cheaper than the Xerox Phaser printers, or even than the laser printers.

How is printing to the Toshiba copier different from WebCRD? Printing to the Toshiba copier is a little like using WebCRD, except that you do not have to wait for delivery, instead, you go to the work room to pick up your print job. It waits there for you until you put in your department code.

How do I know how many prints I made on my copier account? There are directions on the top of the copy machine to tell you how to do this. The prints you make do not go against your allotment of copies for the quarter. Sue will make sure of this, and if you have questions about it, she can help you.

Did you know there is a proper way to turn off the copy machine?

Proper Copier Shutdown

There is a proper way to shut off the copy machine. You do not normally need to do this unless it is summer time when it will go for days without being used. Proper shut down is needed, because there is a computer in the copier that needs to be treated just like the computers in your classroom.

The proper way is NOT to use the POWER button on left of machine.

Follow these directions:
Press USER FUNCTION round button on left
Press USER bar Press SHUTDOWN icon
Press YES or NO bar TO RESTART COPIER
Press the 8 and 0 numbers on the keypad simultaneously
Listen for high-pitched beeps
Then press the POWER BUTTON on the left of copier (under plastic cover)
Copier should restart now for its six minute warm-up
