STAR Math

TO: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders

FROM: Ms. McNeely , REACH Enrichment teacher and Mrs. Speidel, Star Math parent coordinator

This note is for anyone who loves math! We are ready to start the STAR Math Program for any student in grades one through five who’d like to participate.

WHAT TO DO: If you’d like to join, do this first worksheet and bring it back to your classroom teacher by Friday. The difficulty level of each question is indicated by the number of stars next to the problem. One-star problems are the easiest. Please feel free to get help from home if you need it. You will receive a two-sided math enrichment sheet on every Monday or Tuesday listed on the back of this page. You will have until Friday to complete the sheet and return it to your classroom teacher. Because of the large number of children who participate, we cannot hand out replacement sheets or track down students who forget to write their name on their paper. If you fail to turn in 4 assignments in a row, your name will automatically be deleted from our weekly list of participants.

PARTS 1 & 2: The Star Math Program has been divided into two parts with each part having 11 worksheets/weeks. (See the schedule on the back of this sheet.)

PARTIES: At the end of Part One, those students who complete at least 10 of the 11 worksheets will be invited to a party during lunch to celebrate their hard work. The twelfth worksheet begins Part Two of the program and gives you another opportunity to be invited to a Star Math party by completing at least 10 out of 11 of these worksheets.

If you have questions about this program, please ask Ms. McNeely 213-6100 (5225). Here’s your first assignment. DON’T FORGET YOUR NAME!!
