Latin America
One of the units we study in sixth grade social studies is Latin America.
Below you will find a list of the curriculum and objectives for this unit.
- Understand the major geographic regions of Latin America.
- Locate and label the main regions of Latin America (South America,
the Caribbean, and Mexico, and Central America) and the surrounding bodies
of water.
- Understand the influence of the Inca and Aztec on modern LAtin America.
- Explain how Latin America's early civilizations have affected present-day
cultures on Latin America.
- Understand the colonization of LAtin America and its lasting effects on its
diverse cultures.
- Analyze the effects of European rule on Native Americans in the region.
- Understand the ethnic diversity within the nations of Latin America.
- Record demographic information (area, population, colonial ruler, year of
independence, annual income per person, ehtnicity, language, literacy rate,
religion, and urban and rural population) and graphically organize the data.
- Understand the stuggle for independence in Latin America
- Describe how Latin American nations won independence from their
European rulers.
