Course Information

Painting (5085)                                     Grade:  10, 11, 12            Half Fine Arts Credit     
Length:  1 Semester
Prerequisite:  Basic Art, Drawing I


  Students will learn the techniques and methods of painting with watercolor and acrylic paint. Students will work in realistic and abstract styles using various subjects. Applying the elements and principles of art and the knowledge of color theory, students will communicate their ideas visually.

 

Drawing I (5055)                              Grade: 9, 10, 11, 12               Half Fine Arts Credit     
Length:  1 Semester
Prerequisite:  Basic   Art

Students will learn to do realistic drawings of such subjects as natural objects, still life, buildings, and portraits. Many methods to develop hand skills and train the eye are used, some from the book Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain. Media and techniques include pencil, markers, pen and ink and charcoal.


Drawing II (5065)                                   Grade:  10, 11, 12            Half Fine Arts Credit     
Length:  1 Semester
Prerequisite:  Basic Art, Drawing I


  Students will expand skills learned in Drawing I with more intensive study of composition and the use of additional media andtechniques.  Students will work from observation and imagination. Students will develop an intensive approach for interpretation of subject matter. Students will learn skills and techniques with the following media: pencil, color pencil, pastel, pen and ink, charcoal and mixed media.


Sculpture I (5095)                                 Grade:  10, 11, 12            Half Fine Arts Credit     
Length:  1 Semester
Prerequisite:  Basic Art and Drawing I or Instructor’s Signature


  Students will design and make large and small three-dimensional works in a variety of materials including cardboard/paper, wood, wire, plaster, fibers, stone and found objects. Students will demonstrate basic skills in design and construction.


Sculpture II (5096)                                Grade:  10, 11 ,12            Half Fine Arts Credit     
Length:  1 Semester
Prerequisite:  Sculpture I


  Building on the skills and understanding of the four basic sculpture processes (casting, carving, modeling, and assemblage) developed in Sculpture I, students will explore media with greater sophistication and projects will be larger and more challenging.

 

Advanced Art (5105)                             Grade:  11, 12                 Half Fine Arts Credit
Fall Semester Only
Prerequisite:  Basic Art, Drawing I and two additional Art courses


    Students will develop a portfolio of their own work, acquire career and school information, and stimulate individual creative expression. Students will further develop skills, techniques, and ideas learned in previous courses. Students will do drawing and painting projects with the whole class and select specific media and techniques for personal exploration.

AP Art (5100)                             Grade:  11, 12                 One Fine Arts Credit
Year Long Course
Prerequisite:  Three previous Art courses

Students will submit a portfolio of their work to the AP College board exam readers for evalutaion. The AP program is based on the premise that college level material can be taught to secondary school students. Three portfolios are offered: 2-D Design, drawing, and 3-D design. This course is designed for students who are willing to complete summer work plus a year long AP course.
